Film presentation: To Kill a Mockingbird—Rancho Santa Margarita Library is proud to present a screening of the Academy-Award winning film, To Kill a Mockingbird, starring Gregory Peck. Film aesthetics educator Nancy Keane will present an overview of Harper Lee’s story as film and literature, and will lead a group discussion following the screening of the film.

Teen Poetry & Art Contests–To celebrate National Poetry Month, the Rancho Santa Margarita Library is having a contest for original poetry written by teens ages 12–18.
The contest, which runs Monday, February 4 through Saturday, March 15, is a countywide program at all 33 branches of the Orange County Public Library. A contest entry form must accompany each original poem, typed or word-processed on 8.5” x 11” paper. For a complete set of rules, please visit your local OCPL branch or the library’s website at www.ocpl.org. Deadline for all entries is Saturday, March 15 at 5 pm. Members of The Writing Tree, a local writer’s club, will judge.
In addition, the library system will have a concurrent art contest. The winning artwork will become front and back covers of Voices in Verse, an anthology of the first, second and third place poems from all branch libraries, which will be distributed to winners and libraries. Artwork must be original, by a teen age 12 to 18, black and white, and can be either hand drawn or computer generated. Entry forms are available at all OCPL branches and the website beginning Monday, February 4. There will be cash prizes for both contests. Knit & Crochet Club– Rancho Santa Margarita Library is continuing a series of “hands-on” knit and crochet classes for adults and teens at no charge. Have fun learning to knit or crochet, while contributing to a worthy cause, or receive help with your own project. Previous group projects included the creation of an afghan for the Warm Up America! Foundation.
The Friends of the RSM Library furnish the supplies.
